If you haven’t been living in a hole, you probably have seen the YouTube wedding video that has been splashed all over the internet and TV.

Kevin Heinz and Jill Peterson of St. Paul Minnesota posted their unique “Wedding Procession” on YouTube which I can best describe as one part hip-hop and one part hippie dance. Their procession was nearly 6 minutes long to Chris Browns, 2008 hit, Forever.  I have posted the video link below, I am sure you will get a kick out of it. I first saw the video on the Today Show last week but after watching the full clip on YouTube, I realized that there just might be a lesson in this for meeting planners.

Here are my take aways for Meeting and Event Planners:

  • Don’t forget the element of surprise, “Here Comes the Bride” to the same old song and dance or maybe “Chris Brown’s Forever”
  • Spontaneity – Don’t over rehearse, the couple said they practiced for about an hour and a half and ad libbed the rest.
  • Don’t Fear the Reaper – Nobody wants to look stupid.  Champion your fun ideas like this bride who “choreographed” her idea and made it safe for her bridal party to participate.
  • Social Media is no longer the way of the future- it is now. It appears a cheap digital camera is all that is needed to get 6 million YouTube hits and an interview on the Today Show.
  • Be the first. Be the second, just don’t be the last.

I hope you enjoy the video.  I am going to make YouTube University a regular feature of Meeting Point Cincinnati.  Be sure to send me any ideas or links to meetingpointcincinnati@gmail.com .
